ESG: 2020 IN ACTION
We have 17 investment professionals1 dedicated to environmental, social, and governance research. They support our analysts and portfolio managers. An operations team focused on proxy voting execution and a technology team focused on ESG data integration provide additional strength. 1As of April 30, 2021.
Our RIIM model aligns with global ESG frameworks such as United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
We have developed our own proprietary framework to help our investment team more easily integrate ESG factors, including variations for each asset class, into their investment process.
Our Responsible Investing Indicator Model (RIIM) offers our team two key advantages in that it:
1. Proactively searches large universes of ESG data and presents an easy-to-digest profile of a specific security, portfolio, or benchmark; and
2. Gives us a systematic framework for measuring and comparing the ESG characteristics of individual securities as well as portfolios.
We have been a signatory of the Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI) since 2010, and we report to the PRI annually. Expansion of dedicated ESG analysis and technology has benefited our internal structures and process. Our approach to accountability means ESG starts at the top so that our ever developing ESG specialists and ESG committee report to the board of directors as well as the investment committee.
